Raynes Park Vale v Hassocks

FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round Sat 20th August 2011

Good afternoon & welcome to the officials, players and supporters of Hassocks & to the Match Officials for today’s FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round.

Hassocks visit us from the Sussex County Division One. Only Started there season last Saturday, with a 3 – 1 win over Selsey. But in Midweek went down 2-1 away at Worthing Utd. Hope you enjoy your visit to Grand Drive. The winners of today’s fixture can look forward to a Home game against Faversham Town      on 3rd September.

Despite the defeat last Saturday away at Camberley Town, there were some good things to take from it & for the first 40 minutes we were looking ok at home against Horley on Tuesday night. Peter Hickford with his 1st goal for RPV giving us a 1-0 lead on 13 minutes. Then we missed a penalty & let Horley in to score two goals all within the last 5 of the 1st half.  Horley extended there lead on 64 &75 mins against a clearly deflated RPV. Although later in the half we picked up & played some good football, Horley added another on 90. Then a minute later Moses Lamay with his first goal for RPV got one back to make the final score 2 – 5.

There’s a lot of potential in the squad & as it continues to develop I’m sure Lee, his coaches the players will find the right formula that will bring the results that there hard work deserves.

Good to see Mr Mosley back from Holidays still sporting that beard, said he’s not going to shave until he scores! All I can say on that one is “No Comment”.  Although if he gets a goal this afternoon & we win, then I will buy him some shaving cream!

Tues 16th Aug 2011

Good evening & welcome to the officials, players and supporters of Horley Town & to the Match Officials for tonight’s Combined Counties Premier Division fixture.

Horley have had a good start to the season with 2 wins, but Saturday saw them lose at home to Ash so sure they will be looking get back to winning tonight.

RPV got off a good start on the opening day of the season with 8 players making there debuts. Second half goals from Simon Moore & Karle Davy completed a comfortable 2-0 win at home to Dorking. Definitely a better start than last year.

Our Midweek game away a Croydon was called off by the league due to the trouble in that area. Have to say a correct decision that, from reading the forums, was well supported, apart a couple of individual who posted some comments that I hope they will look back on & in hindsight will realise that sometimes there are other things more important than football.

Saturday we travelled to Camberley. Going down 3-1 to a strong Camberley side that will surely be challenging for the title this season. Camberley went 2-0 up with 2 goals in 2 minutes, but second half saw RPV come out fighting, Moore scoring an excellent goal after beating two defenders in the box. A couple more chances were created, a bit more luck & we could have nicked an equaliser. Peter Hickford going closet with a backward header that went just wide. Talking to Dobo after the game he though it was a good performance from a team still developing.

From a club view, the new players have integrated very well & from if we continue the way we have started this could be a good season. Might even be able to sell that stock of Red wine we have behind the Bar!

One success from Saturday was that we were able to wear our full Away Kit, last season we were unable to wear the red shorts due to Mr Bulgers expanding waist line, but with a lot of hard work & the vital sponsorship from weight watchers the pounds have been falling away. Well done Gav will soon be able spell your surname correctly.

Sat 06th Aug 2011

Good afternoon & welcome to the officials, players and supporters of Dorking & to the Match Officials for this afternoons opening Combined Counties Premier Division fixture of the 2011-12 season.

There’s been a couple of changes at RPV since last season, long serving Secretary Dave Brenen has stepped down from the role, although Dave will continue to be at the club & help run things as much as he used to. RPV would like thank him all his work in the past & we know we can depend on his support in the future. The Secretary role has been taken on by another long serving RPV man, Paul Armour.

A few weeks into Pre-Season Ed Cornwell decided to resign as 1st team Manager, saying that he wanted to move on to new things & subsequently took a coaching position at Tooting & Mitchum Utd. Ed made a significant all round contribution to RPV in his time as player & manager (& Social Secretary) so he will be missed but we thank him for all his hard work & wish him the best for the future.

Lee Dobinson agreed to step (back) up to take on the manager role after acting as Ed’s Assistant for the last couple of seasons. Dave Skinner will continue as Assistant Manager & also in his unofficial role as “Club Dad”, while Adam Skinner has joined as Coach alongside Gavin Bulger who will also be team captain this season, along with Marc Skinner as club captain. Andrew Mander will again coach the Goalkeepers, Andy has also signed as a player in case of emergencies, so you never know!!!

RPV will also be running a side the Combined counties reserve division this season. Terry Tuvey has joined as reserve team Manager & will be assisted by Mark Wardley.

Speaking to Lee in the week, Lee said has been very pleased with how pre-season has gone. The squad has retained several key players from last season along with some new faces that look to have improved the in depth strength of the squad. Lee said that the commitment from the squad has been 1st class, while also wanting to thank all his staff & coaches for there continued commitment, Dave, Adam, Bulg, Andy, Terry, Mark & Robert.

There has also been, as usual, a lot of work behind the scenes, would like to extend our thanks for the continued support to the club from, Fred, Steve, Mick, Nigel, DB, Paul, Syd. Rob & Jon. All make a significant contribution to the running of club.

Also we welcome a new programme editor, Mike Hill. These is his 1st one & have to say the test copies I saw in the week were excellent, Welcome to the Club Mike, your help with this is very much appreciated.

One last item to mention, have been informed that this Sunday is captain Bulgers birthday, so all at RPV would like to wish him Happy Birthday, there’s a few grey hairs coming through but all round looks ok as he enters his 35th year.
